My Place
I arrived safely in Oxford on the afternoon of Thursday, September 25. The town is amazing. Very old, with the University at the center and its colleges spread throughout. I spent the first couple days getting moved in, going grocery shopping, meeting a few of my dorm mates, and seeing some of the town including a tour of a few pubs. I live in an area of Oxford called Norham Gardens which is just north of the city center. My flat is located in a residential area which backs up to University Parks -- an amazing set of parks that runs this side of the city and includes the Cricket Club and a small pond -- perfect for running. The weather hasn't been too bad, although it is summer and its wet and cold outside. Always wearing jeans/trousers, not to be confused with "pants", a warm jacket and occasionally I bust out the scarf. Umbrellas are a must. I am about a 10 minute bike ride from Tescos which is a discount grocery store, or I can go to the local Sainsbury’s which is similar to Safeway in the States. I have met some really great people, including some people on my floor. I'm still learning to look right before left, to say "cheers" instead of "thank you", not to tip at restaurants or pubs, to ask for "tap water" if I want water with dinner (not standard here), and the money system -- way to many coins! I'm loving that there is not an additional tax added on to things you buy, although the exchange rate is killer. Will write more soon. Missing everyone so much at home. WEM.

I have been eagerly awaiting this blog...and it was worth it. Your mom has been keeping me up to date on stuff, but this blog thingy is GREAT. I love seeing the pics - especially your dorm (too cool Will). -Gina
